April 24th Meeting

Zombie Noun Apocalypse with Jill Swenson

We all have the uncanny ability to kill copy with nominalizations, passive voice, and run-on sentences. Jill will show us how to breathe life into our words. And if you don't know what a nominalization is, you'll find out. If you work with academics, you should know! She'll share a handful of tips on how to make your copy crisp and clean with examples and an exercise.

Jill is the President of Swenson Book Development based in Ithaca. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Chicago and has 20 years of experience teaching, editing, and coaching writers. She spent ten years as an Associate Professor at Ithaca College's Park School of Communications. Her next adventure involved living off the grid on a sustainable farm. She blogged extensively about her experiences "On Warren Pond Farm." More about Jill:

Our meeting will be held from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 24th, in 102 Mann Library, just off the lobby. No need to RSVP. Space is limited to 50 people. Meetings are BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch). Grab lunch, a snack, or coffee at Manndible Cafe, just steps away.
